The Octavia is a fuzz which creates the octave doubling effect (one octave higher) made famous by Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck. The Voodoo Lab Proctavia is an exact replica of Tycobrahe Sound Company’s Octavia, the model used by Stevie Ray Vaughan and considered the most desirable by vintage collectors.

The Proctavia includes the same transistors, germanium diodes and transformer coupled output stage as the original circuit to produce the outrageous distortion and high octave sound heard on classic recordings like “Are You Experienced” and “Wired.”

“Voodoo Lab's Proctavia: it'll put a spell on you."

"Once the Proctavia is plugged in, it doesn't take long to realise that you're dealing with a quality pedal that oozes versatility from its two controls.”

  • Proctavia FAQ

  • What is the Proctavia?
The Voodoo Lab Proctavia is an exact replica of Tycobrahe Sound Company’s Octavia which is a fuzz/octave pedal that creates a note an octave higher than the original. Considered to be one of the most desired pedals by vintage collectors, the sound of the Octavia is what gave the solo in ”Purple Haze” its unique, stringy sting.

How close is the Proctavia to an old Octavia?
The Proctavia is an exact replica that includes the same transistors, germanium diodes and transformer coupled output stage as the original circuit.

    Why does mine sound broken?
When you first try the Proctavia, if you merely plug it in and strum a chord, you will hear a dissonant distortion that sounds like it’s broken. You need to learn to play the Proctavia like a new instrument. As a general rule, single note solos lines are fine. Chords, unless they are of the harmonically simple power chord-type, can be a little more difficult to navigate. Chords through the Proctavia can be the coolest and worst sounds you’ll ever hear. Use this power with caution grasshopper.

Can I use it with a power supply like the DC Brick?
No. Like other Octavia pedals that are around, the Proctavia pedal is a positive ground. It can run on a battery, on its own power supply (like the Boss PSA-120), or with the Pedal Power units (because the outputs are isolated). However, it will shut down the whole power supply if it is fed into an output that is not isolated. Most other multi-output power supplies (Dunlop DC Brick, Godlyke, daisy chained Boss) have a common ground which means that the outputs aren’t individually regulated. If you have other negative ground pedals being powered with one of these multi-output power supplies, the Proctavia pedal will not work.

    Where is the Proctavia made?
Every Voodoo Lab product is hand built one at a time in our Northern California facility from the finest modern and vintage components. This along with rigorous quality control checks throughout production help ensure phenomenal performance and real world reliability. We’re so confident in our production that we offer a 5-year warranty on everything we make!

What kind of external power jack does it have?
Current Proctavia pedals with the LED have a 5.5x2.1mm barrel connector. However, older Voodoo Lab pedals without the LED have a 3.5mm mini-plug jack.

How much current do Voodoo Lab pedals draw?
None of our pedals draw more than 50mA.

What are the dimensions of Voodoo Lab pedals?
The dimensions of the pedals are:
    L 4 3/4" x W 3 3/4" x H 2"

Where is the serial number on Voodoo Lab pedals?
The serial number is noted on a sticker on the inside of the back cover of the pedal.
